Early Halloween

Halloween came early for the Boyd family this year.

This is Kenna's first Halloween and I could not wait to dress her up! Daniel and I will be on vacation over Halloween and I was fairly disappointed that we would not get to see Miss K enjoy her first trick-or-treating experience. Of course, she will not be actually eating any candy, but still....

This morning, Kenna went to church in all her orange and black finery. She did look pretty cute if I do say so myself!! She really liked the tulle skirt and kept trying to figure out how it would go in her mouth.
What a cutie!
Aunt Mercy turned fourteen on the 21st so we had a birthday party after church. Kenna enjoyed playing in the sunshine before taking a really good nap. She had to get all rested up for Trunk or Treat!
Happy Birthday, Mercy!

Loving time with Grandpa.
Miss K was a ladybug this year for Halloween. I thought that would make a great first Halloween ensemble. We took a few pictures of the front and the back before we left Jon and Mandy's.She really did not mind her costume too much. I don't think she would have been bothered at all if it had not been 85 degrees outside at Trunk or Treat. Kenna seemed to really enjoy Trunk or Treat. I pushed her around in the stroller and let her look at all of the candy that was being passed out. There were some really great decorated trunks! One of the things that Miss K was most interested in was JD's pirate costume....I think she wanted the gold buttons.Doesn't she make a great ladybug!?!
We took the costume off pretty quickly...it was just a little too warm. Poor thing never complained but her hair was starting to stick to her head when I took off the headpiece. I thought for sure she would take a nap on the way home but she stayed awake and told me all about the neat costumes and decorations she had seen. I think she finally gave in to her busy day when we got home. Once she ate and had a bath, she crashed!!
I am still sad that we are going to miss her first Halloween, but I sure am glad Trunk or Treat was scheduled for this weekend and I had a good reason to dress her up myself!

6 months old and getting big!

My baby is growing up!

Kenna had her 6 month well visit this morning and she has grown a lot!

She weighed in at 16 lb 10 oz and was 26 inches long, which puts her at the 50th percentile for both. That is quite a change from her last visit. My petite little princess is getting big!!

Way to go Miss K!!

Baby Food and High Chairs

Is it possible that my daughter does not like fruit?

Kenna has always LOVED to eat. She has not had a problem with breast milk, formula, or the switch between the two. She enjoyed her rice cereal and absolutely downs oatmeal. She gets so excited about her breakfast of oatmeal and a bottle!

She was not exactly thrilled with peas, but has eaten sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, and green beans without any problems.

But she does not seem to enjoy fruit. We have tried bananas, applesauce, and pears and she just makes horrible faces and gags with all of them. Oh well, I guess we will just keep trying. Maybe she will learn to like them eventually. :) (update: she had a whole tub of applesauce today at Miss Cindy's)

On another note, Miss K used her high chair for the first time today and absolutely loved it. We have been feeding her in the bumbo sitting on the table, which worked really well, because she is a little on the small side. Recently though, she has started to try and arch her back out of the seat so that she can see what is going on and has seemed to grow a lot. We decided that today was the day we would try the high chair. She thought it was great! I think she still looks so little in it though.

I can't believe my baby is over six months old! (She goes for her well check on Wed so I will let you know how much she has grown.)

Pumpkin Patch Pictures

Kenna was playing on Saturday and enjoying her playmat. She had been rolling around all over the place and then tried to take all of her toys with her. I finished emptying the dishwasher and found this....
Yesterday afternoon, we went to the pumpkin patch with the Boyd family. I had to get some pictures of Miss K with the pumpkins.
She thought the bales of hay were very interesting.
She also had to inspect the big orange round things.
Her daddy tried to tell her all about them.
They make really good seats.
JD loved the fact that he could run through the field.

He looked like an official pumpkin farmer.

I didn't end up with any pictures of Luke, but he was there as well.
While we were all at the pumpkin farm, Jackson tried out Kenna's playmat. I think he enjoyed it. It was fun to get to see him again so soon. I loved snuggling with the three week old!!

We had a fun weekend!

Photo Shoot

Last Saturday when we were in Muleshoe, our family had a photographer come out to the house to take pics while everyone was around. We have not gotten to see all of the pictures, Mom is going to meet her next Saturday to see all of the proofs, but Faith posted some 'sneak peek' pictures on her blog to whet our appetites!

I love this picture of Kenna...she looks so sweet!
The girls had a "bottle picnic"...

The whole family in front of 'the tree'. We had first day of school pictures made here every year so we had to have one done here!
There are some more great pictures on Faith's blog (www.faithessary.com/blog) that you should check out. Once we see them all after next week, I will post a few more. She also took some of just Dan, Kenna, and me...should be fun!

My little bookworm

Kenna has REALLY started to enjoy books recently. She has always liked it when we read to her but now she likes to explore books on her own. Last night, she could not decide which book she wanted to read after she made herself comfy on the couch. "Daddy, do not interrupt my reading."
"Well I do like you so I guess it is okay"
I hope she always likes books!

Birthday Weekend

Today is my 30th birthday. I can't believe I am no longer in my 20s!!

We drove to Muleshoe and then Lubbock this weekend to have a family celebration with all of my family. Kenna did really well on the way there and only cried (yelled) for a little while the last hour of the trip. I think she just wanted out of the car seat!!

Saturday morning, my sister, brother-in-law, and my niece came to Muleshoe so we could do some family pictures. A LOT has changed since the last time we all had our picture made together. The babies did pretty good, but I think all that picture taking must have worn out Miss K because she fell asleep in her Uncle Cade's arms. I can't wait to see the finished product!

After a restorative nap on the way to Lubbock, Abbye and Kenna played and played together on the floor. I think they were becoming pretty good friends until Kenna reached up, knocked Abbye's pacifier out of her mouth and then put it in her own mouth. I guess she was trying to teach Abbye how to share.

Last night, almost all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents (almost 30 people) from both sides of the family met at the 50 yard line in Lubbock for dinner. We had a lot of fun and good food. I also got to meet the newest member of the family, Kody. Kody is my cousin's son and is 2.5 weeks old.

My mother and sister made we wear a 30 button (that flashed). Wasn't the cake beautiful!?! Those are real flowers on top. It tasted good as well.

This is not a great picture, but I had to show you a picture of Miss K's outfit. She was stylin'!!
Before bed, both girls needed a bath so they got to get in the little duck tub together. They just splashed and splashed. They will be needing to move to the bigger tub before long! (Kenna needs some girl cousins on the other side of the family that she can take baths with....)

We all went to church and lunch together before we heading home today. Kenna slept from the minute we left my sister's house until 45 minutes from home! I think there was just too much excitement for her...she was worn out! She just went down for the night.

Now for what everyone has been waiting for....more Kenna video. After dinner last night, several of us were hanging out at my sister's house, just watching the babies play. They were chatting with each other (of course, none of us knew what they were saying) so I thought I would record a little video of them talking. I am sorry it is so long, but I could not figure out how to edit some of the first. You have to watch the whole thing to see Miss K show her true colors at the end. I was laughing too hard to hold the camera still so sorry for the bouncing!

I think Abbye will be onto Kenna from now on. After several different pacifier snatchings, I think she will keep her paci out of Kenna's hands!

3 AM

It is three o'clock in the morning....

Kenna woke up about thirty minutes ago and will not go back to sleep. She is not upset at all....she is just laying in her crib talking every now and then. She normally goes to bed around 8 and will sleep until 6:30 without a problem. Last night she was a little extra tired and fell asleep at 7:40. Surely that extra twenty mintues didn't mess her up!!

She now has a dry diaper and she doesn't want to eat so I know she should be able to go back to sleep. We shall see! Maybe I should put her in her jumper....she seems to sleep there pretty well! I don't want her to think it is morning and time to play though.

We are leaving tomorrow (or is it today?) to go to Lubbock/Muleshoe for the weekend. Daniel is working tonight so the plan was for me to drive tomorrow while he slept/studied for the promotional exam. We might have to alter that plan just slightly! :) I am sure we will take some pictures, so for all of you who just want to see pics of Miss K, I will update when we get back.

The time between chatter (well her no words version of chatter) is starting to lengthen and get quieter. Do I dare try to go back to bed or will that jinx it.....

(Update: She was up for almost two hours and never cried. She just talked to herself for a long time after I changed her diaper and then just let her try to go back to sleep. She must have been having an important conversation with herself. I never even got her out of her crib. She looks really sleepy this morning though!)
