Weekend fun

My sister and my parents came to visit on Saturday and we had so much fun!

The main objective of the trip was to purchase my sister's bedding for her crib at Pottery Barn Kids....I love that store! They have some really cute things. We definitely spent a lot of time there. My dad and Daniel ran around to a few other places so they did not have to stay with us the whole time.

We spent the day shopping (read looking) at baby stuff and just hanging out. Of course, we did end up back at my house for a short nap in the afternoon. What do you expect...it is two pregnant women.

We ended the day with dinner at Macaroni Grill, where we waited forever! My dad eventually asked for the manager just so we would be seated. They quoted us a wait time of 45 min and it was 1.5 hours before we were at a table. It took another 40 minutes to get our food. We didn't leave because kept thinking we would eventually be seated and we thought the wait would be long at every restaurant by the time we got to another. And I usually love Macaroni Grill!

They all left early on Sunday to head home but we got to at least enjoy a short visit.

Here are some pics of the two pregos.

Summoned

Yesterday, I got to spend the morning on jury duty.

It seems like a lot of people I know have recently gotten called to jury duty. It actually wasn't a bad way to spend the morning.

The first hour was spent just reading stuff for work in the central jury room, while I was waiting for my name to be called. Then I was picked to be in a group of 25 people that would appear before the judge and attorneys - they eventually chose six.

It was a very interesting process. We got to listen to very generic sides of a DWI case - the details would not be introduced until the trial actually started after the jury was selected. Both sides were trying to get you to voice your opinion on whether or not you agreed that driving after having one drink was acceptable and what you thought the legal definition of intoxication should be.

I was released at 1:00 and actually went back to work, but I really enjoyed getting to see the jury system in action. It really is an amazing process to choose a 'jury of your peers.'

New Couches

Daniel can find the best deals.
I have no idea how he does it...he just seems to always find what we are looking for or talking about without having to spend lots of money!
When we got married, he had acquired three different couch/loveseat sets of which I was given my choice. (He will occassionally do move jobs on his days off. You would be amazed at what people decide to not move to their new home and will just give to the movers). The black microsuede that we ended up putting in our home have worked great, but they were definitely getting a little worse for the wear.
We talked about getting new furniture for the living room, but we weren't sure we wanted to spend too much money right before we had kids...you never know what they will spill on them!
Which brings me back to my original comment...Daniel can find a good deal on pretty much anything. He started looking at the website he had bought the previously mentioned vacuums from and found a set for sell that had a couch, loveseat, chair, and ottoman for less than the price of the couch! Now we have some fun, new furniture without feeling like we spent a lot of money before Miss Kenna arrives. Here are some pics...it is actually dark brown leather even though it looks black.

Nursery Furniture

We officially have some furniture in Kenna's room!

Daniel picked up the bookcase that matches the crib and the dresser yesterday and they are sitting in the floor of the soon to be nursery. Now we just have to wait until the crib and dresser get here (which could be another 6 weeks). Daniel is hoping to start painting sometime in the next few weeks.

We are slowly making progress!

Mamaw's 90th Birthday

Daniel and I drove to Arkansas this weekend to celebrate Daniel's grandmother's 90th birthday. We had a blast!!

We drove up on Saturday morning with Nathan and Michael and met up with the rest of the family to celebrate. We had a very fun party at the nursing home where Mamaw lives. We also got to see most of Ouida's side of the family...we have seen them at weddings here and there but have not been to Ark since Sarah's wedding almost two years ago! It was a lot of fun to hang out with the fam before we headed home again yesterday. It was a quick but very enjoyable trip!

Here are some more pics from the party.

Sick Hubby Update and prayer request

Daniel is feeling much better....guess he just had one of those nasty 24 hour bugs...I'm glad it's over!

I have a prayer request to go along with all of the unrest in Kenya. There is a group of Aggies on a mission trip that is supported by the church I attended while I was at A&M that is 'stuck' in Kenya. Rebekah, one of the girls interviewed in the article linked below, was in my cabin when I was a counselor at Blue Haven and grew up with one of my best friends from college. Please keep all of these guys in your prayers!

Sick Hubby

Daniel called in sick today for only the second time since I have known him. He has gotten some sort of stomach bug, complete with a fairly high fever last night.

I hate watching him feel bad... I just want to make him well! Of course I know he probably has a virus and you just have to let it run its course (I tell people that every day) but that doesn't make it any easier. I am sure the worry will also be there when Kenna actually gets here...It is bad enough when your adult husband is ill, what about your baby?

He was feeling a little better this morning and his temperature was down... hopefully he is on the mend!

(Kenna is going to be our daughter's name... now she just needs a middle name!)

Happy New Year!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the New Year and having fun celebrating...whatever you have chosen to do!

Daniel and I have played it pretty low-key this year and have just spent yesterday and today hanging out at home, watching movies and football, and doing some little projects around the house. We have had a great time!

We are slowly starting to work on the nursery...the first project is to get all of the "stuff" that has accumulated over the last 6 months cleaned out so that we can start painting, etc. After today, we almost have an empty room! I can't wait for it to really start looking like a baby's room. We have several things that will need to go in the room already. Our unborn daughter got a killing for Christmas...clothes, blankets, books, etc. So fun!

Dan and I have spent a lot of time talking over the last two days about how much is going to change in this new year for us...we can't wait!

Hope everyone has a blessed New Year!!
