Closest to God

Daniel and I are leaving on Friday to go skiing with my sister and her husband, my brother, and about ten other people. We were talking last night about how much we were looking forward to going back to the mountains and seeing God in nature. Later that evening, I was working on my Bible study and one of the questions was about times we have spent in nature and have seen God. We were then asked to describe one of those times. This generated some more conversation between me and Dan.

Where do you feel closest to God? In the mountains? At the beach? In the middle of the ocean? Or sitting in your own home? I think my hubby and I both would say we feel the closest to God in the mountains.....

I think it is so easy to be overwhelmed by God's beauty and power when we were in a location out of the norm. We seem to notice everything. For me, at least, it is very easy to get used to seeing the things around you everyday and do not always appreciate them for what they really are. I wonder how many times I am walking from my car to work and don't notice the birds in the air or the trees behind our office. I wonder how much I miss here that I look for when I have traveled elsewhere.

What do you think?

I think for me it is when you are away life is at a slower pace so you have time to notice and take it in, where in the everyday here at home we are just always on the run and don't take the time. That being said, God has always spoken to me the loudest in water settings, I love rivers and waterfalls, but my favorite is the beach. The waves coming in and out just remind me of His amazing grace and how it washes over my soul over and over. Ya'll have a fun time and safe time!

I think it is easier to see God when I am away form everyday life. Although I take time daily to talk to Him and thank Him for what we have I don't always take the time to enjoy and be taken away from what He has made. He is such an awesome God and deserves so much more than we can ever give Him. Thanks for the question - good reflection.

I think it is when the babies are asleep. :) We just go go go and then it is quiet. I reflect on all the funny things they did and thank God for the joy of it. Sometimes I don't realize the joy of it until I think back on it.

I think you see and appreicate different things at different times. I think we have memories of things that we look forward to seeing again. I know that the stars are bright here in Des Moines, but they never have been as beautiful as they are when I am home. I guess I see/appreciate God's beauty when I am with someone or am recalling memories. You can't be mistaken, mountains are magestic, but sometimes driving past a truck stop and thanking God that I am home every night in my own bed does about the same for me....Just random thoughts! I hope that you have a wonderful time. THere is nothing better than spending time with family and friends!
