Abbye's 1st Birthday

This past weekend, Kenna and I flew to Lubbock to celebrate Abbye Cate's first birthday. Wow I can't believe how old everybody's babies are getting!! Daniel and the boys were all in Colorado so he didn't get to join us. I was very impressed with how well Miss K did on both of the flights (there and back). She was definitely an almost one-year-old and needed to have something new to look at or do every five seconds :) but overall was fairly content to sit in my lap. Both trips she would try to get down for the first 5-10 minutes but then seemed to quickly realize that was not an option. I think she fussed (not even a real cry) for about 5 minutes each time. Good job Miss K!!

When we arrive Friday afternoon, it was 22 degrees and blowing snow at about 30 miles an hour. Poor Kenna didn't even get to really appreciate her first official snow sighting because we rushed her to the car under a blanket where she promptly fell asleep for the ride home. We had dinner over at my grandparents' house and Kenna had some before bed bonding time with her great-grandfather.
Saturday morning, Kenna was very pleased that my dad had made her pancakes. I love the grin in this picture! We had torn a few pieces off and she was trying to put it back together so that she could just bite it herself.
Saturday afternoon was Abbye's birthday party. She looked so cute and grown-up sitting in her high chair!!Abbye was very excited to see Kenna when we got there and wanted to give her lots and lots of hugs and kisses but Kenna wasn't too sure about that. She was okay with the first two hugs but then started walking the other way when Abbye crawled over. It was too cute!! Abbye is such a loving little girl!!It took Abbye a little while to understand what was going on, but eventually she got the hang of things and started opening a few of her own presents.Kenna was very content to sit in her Mimzi's lap with her balloon. She was quite attached to that balloon and wanted to be able to easily access it so my brother-in-law tied the string around her waist. Miss K thought this was a wonderful idea!
One of Abbye's presents was a pretend cellphone. Kenna thought this was great and decided she wanted to play with it....

She knew just what to do. I wonder who she got that from?
Abbye's parents got her a slide/castle to have in her backyard. Both girls loved playing on this, but I think they had different ideas about what you are supposed to do....Abbye was very content to go down the slide, but Miss decided it was much more fun to try to climb up the slide...
We laughed and laughed at her trying to make it up on her own.Overall, we had a great weekend. Kenna was a little clingy for most of the trip and wanted to be held (which is a little unlike her) but she got a new tooth yesterday so that definitely explained that one!!
Happy 1st Birthday Abbye Cate!!
