Kenna and the "Backyardigans"

I posted earlier about Kenna and her love for the "wheel" - and while she still enjoys watching, she has moved on to bigger and better things...at least in her opinion!

Her new favorite? The Backyardigans - and actually it is the theme song she loves the most!

Whenever she notices the TV or the remote sitting around, she will pick up the remote, bring it to one of us and start asking for 'baba'. That is definitely one of Kenna's more versatile words and can stand for bottle, blanket, bow, or in this case, Backyardigans.

We thought you might enjoy what we see everytime Kenna watches the theme song - too cute!!

Once the opening is over, she is ready to play with her toys, occasionally looking up to join in the songs they are singing and just watching for the closing credits when this is repeated all over again.

Yummy Dirt

For Kenna's birthday, Daniel and I got her a sandbox with which she has totally fallen in love. Tonight, Daniel was grilling some salmon for dinner and she saw the sandbox out on the patio when he was walking through the door so of course we had to go play! She has played out there several times since her birthday and has never tried to taste the dirt but I think she decided to change that tonight. (Yes there are lots of clots in the dirt but they are really soft and we spent most of her time outside tonight breaking them up. Last weekend when the storms hit, the lid blew off and the sand got all wet. We have had to spend a little time working on it) At first, she made a face at how the dirt tasted and I thought she would quit at that. I mean, who wants to eat dirt!?! But, no, my hungry daughter decided to taste it a few more times.
After she got her fill (Mommy was trying to stop her the whole time), she decided to get down to the business of playing....

Sometimes that includes playing outside the sandbox with all of the toys and some of the sand!

I really do think that she would stay in there all night if we would let her. Of course, once we asked if she was ready to eat, she started toward the door....quickly!
After a yummy dinner and a bath, Miss K was ready for her before bed bottle (the only bottle she still has). Apparently she wanted her pacifier and blanket at the same time....

Now that folks is what I call talent....

I believe I can fly

Kenna has always thought she has a lot more abilities than she really does....of course, doesn't every little one? She has always loved the thought of standing on the couch and then jumping off. Well yesterday, she actually tried. Daniel had his hand on the back of her shirt but that didn't stop her! He got there the second after she landed on the floor. Luckily, our couches are not that tall off the ground and she didn't hit anything else! She was not hurt at all, just a little scared and quit crying the minute Daniel handed her another toy. Hopefully, this was enough of a lesson that she will not try that again. I think we have a little daredevil on our hands!

Another story about Miss K...

Two nights ago, I was cleaning out her closet and trying to get it all finished before she needed to go to bed. I handed Daniel a clean diaper and some pajamas for him to start getting her ready. I hear her squealing and then him laughing. When I come out of her room, I found Daniel taking pictures. Apparently he got the bow out of her hair and her clothes and diaper off and then she took off down the hall. She can crawl pretty fast when she wants to! She thought she was so cute and kept looking back over her shoulder to see if we were watching.

Once she got down the hall, she just waited for us to come get her. I guess she was tired of playing chase!

She is such a sweetie and definitely keeps us on our toes!

Nose?

I posted this on Facebook so some of you have already read this, but I had to post it here as well.

Background info: Kenna knows (most of the time) where her nose is located and will point when asked.

Last night we were eating meatloaf for dinner and Kenna was eating really well. Apparently she likes meatloaf a lot! After she had been eating for a while and was starting to get full, she started playing with the food that was left on the tray of her high chair. We let her play for a little bit, but decided to step in when she thought it would be a good idea to throw food on the floor. Daniel looked at her and said, "Kenna, no-no". She looked at him very sweetly, said "no?" and pointed to her nose. How do you keep from laughing?

Kenna's 1st Birthday

As everyone already knows, Miss K celebrated her first birthday last week and we had a crazy, fun-filled weekend to follow! For as long as I can remember, my mom has taken our picture in bed on the morning of our birthdays. I decided to continue that tradition but Kenna stands up the minute you walk in the door. It is like she can't wait to get up and goes from 0 to 60 in 2 seconds!Gotta love that birthday bed head!
Kenna was very excited about her "one" t-shirt

Friday evening we had a "big birthday bash" for all of our family and Kenna had a blast!! We had the house all decorated and everything.

I even made the cake, from scratch, all by myself!!I thought it turned out all right if I do say so myself!

Kenna and Abbye had a lot of fun looking at all of Kenna's new toys and clothesKenna even opened some of the presents by herselfShe loved her new car seat and was hugging the box even though she did not know how much better her car rides are going to be!

Kenna got a new sandbox from us and I was surprised at how much she enjoyed her feet in the sand

JD grabbed the cars he had given Kenna and showed the girls how to play in a sandboxMy grandfather (Kenna's great grandfather) made her a rocking horse-which she loved!

Kenna keeps crawling over to the rocking horse and asking to "wock". When the horse would step she would try to rock it on her own ~ too cute!
Kenna was so excited about her crown with the flashing one. She would take it off, look at it, and then try to put it back on by herself

She dove into her piece of cake and then had a cupcake as well. She clapped and clapped when everyone sang Happy Birthday.

I think she enjoyed the cake....

My Happy Birthday girl!!

We had a great time at the party! The next morning we all left to go to Snyder for Easter but my camera battery died so I do not have any pictures of my little girl in her Easter dress so, everyone who took pictures of Miss K, send them to me!

One

My baby is officially One - I know it is cliche, but how did that happen!?! Time has really flown by. I was looking back at pictures the other night when I was working in her baby book and was shocked at how much she has grown in the last year. She was such a little thing when she joined the world on April 9, 2008! I had forgotten that her socks didn't even really touch her legs when we came home from the hospital....

Our family photo then to our family photo now....what a change!!!

Kenna is an absolutely precious one year old and I can't wait to see how her personality continues to develop throughout the coming years. She is such a sweet little girl and loves to give hugs to Daddy and Mommy when they ask for it.

She is definitely full of life and energy and wants to be involved in everything that is going on around her. She is so excited that she can walk and tour the world now! There is so much to explore.....

She loves to be out doing things but is also very content to sit and look through her books...what a precious little one we were blessed with! Happy Birthday Miss K!!
I had to go ahead and add this....At JD's party last weekend, Jon was gracious enough to snap some photos of our soon to be one year old. JD loves his cousin so much, that he didn't understand why he couldn't sit and play with KayKay.....

Happy 2nd Birthday JD!

Kenna has attended her first Pirate Party! JD turned two on April 3rd and we helped celebrate yesterday by enjoying a beautiful day at the park.

Miss K was very happy to be out in the sun (and wind...it is Texas after all!).

She even joined in with the pirate party hats! She won't keep a bow in her hair for longer than 5 seconds, but was more than willing to wear the hat....go figure!

JD, Aunt Mercy, and his cousins!

Kenna was very content to hang out with Grandpa - as long as he was sharing some of his food with her - which he was. She still has her hat on!

JD did a great job working on the parrot pinata, but Emma ended up being the only one who hit it hard enough to break.

I loved JD's grin when everyone was singing Happy Birthday to him. He was having so much fun! Jon did a great job on the pirate cake!
JD definitely thought it tasted good!
After presents and cake, we all went down to play on the playground. Kenna wasn't too sure about how the slide worked and kept trying to dig her heels in and stop herself. We didn't make any trips to a playground last summer because she couldn't even really sit up on her own. Guess we will have to change that! I think she will really like going down the slide once she does it a few more times....

She definitely thought it was more fun in Mommy's arms!
After the slide, Miss K and her daddy tried out the swings. At first, she kept trying to hold on and clap all at the same time. After a little bit, she just made herself comfortable and enjoyed the ride. She just kept going higher and higher!
(I'm not sure why this picture keeps turning sideways...sorry!)
I love how content she was....but she definitely threw a fit when we stopped the swing to go back to the party! We will have to go back soon!JD really enjoyed playing with Kenna's stroller when it was empty so he decided he would help push her back to the car.
He did a great job, but had to have a little help when we went back up the hill! (yes, she is wearing different clothes but I will explain that in another post)

Overall, it was a great party! Kenna didn't take an afternoon nap - she was too busy playing - so we weren't sure how long she would last. There were a few eye rubs here and there and some definite chill time in the swing, but she did really well! We ran back to Jon and Mandy's for a little bit before heading home and she and JD did some more playing there. I don't think we had been in the car going to our house for more than 5 minutes before she was completely crashed out! When we did get her home, she was awake long enough to change into pajamas and drink half of a bottle before she was ready to go back to sleep. Those Pirate Parties are hard work!
